Job Description

CHILDREN’S MUSIC COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Director of Music

STATUS: Part Time

FLSA: Non-exempt

HOURS: 3-5/week

Job Summary:

The Children’s Music Coordinator is an essential part of the children’s and music teams of Round Hill Community Church, strengthening the Christian faith of children and youth through music. Proficient in many styles and genres of music, the Coordinator creates a vibrant, compelling program of music enrichment and education, incorporating movement and fun at every turn. The Coordinator collaborates with and works as a team player with other church staff members to facilitate the overall work of the church.

Essential Functions:

  • In cooperation with the Director of Children’s Ministries and pastoral staff, oversees music ministry of children and youth, including supervision of volunteers and collaboration with part-time teachers

  • Plan and administer weekly music education and enrichment for the children and youth of Round Hill Community Church. This is currently planned to occur during Sunday morning church school (10:15 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

  • Provide a positive educational, spiritual, and musically excellent environment for our children and youth

  • Teach music fundamentals, sound vocal technique, and singing through a variety of games, activities, and songs. 

  • Incorporate movement and instruments in the lessons

  • Work closely with Director of Music and Director of Children’s Ministries in creating strategic growth of Children and Youth Ministry

  • Plan, rehearse, and facilitate children and youth music in worship at a frequency determined in collaboration with Director of Music and Director of Children’s Ministries

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Responds to concerns of youth and their parents in a timely and sensitive manner.

  • Communicates necessary worship information to the church office, Director of Music, Music Committee, and other personnel as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, Director of Music, and staff to build community and successful collaborations for the growth of arts and music at Round Hill Community Church

  • Plans and administers the Children and Youth Music budget based upon church guidelines

  • Makes annual budget recommendations for inclusion in the church budget

Other Responsibilities:

  • Lead Children's Message in worship service on an occasional basis, incorporating music and congregational singing

  • Assist in planning and leadership of the annual Children’s Christmas Pageant (early December)

  • Provide music programming for annual summer Vacation Bible School (mid-August)

  • Attend special events held by the church

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Energetic and passionate in dealing with children

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music. Experience equal to this may be considered.

  • 5+ years of experience in church and/or school teaching setting

  • Ability to work with and have a general knowledge of the developmental characteristics of children and middle and high school aged youth.

  • Certification in Orff and/or Dalcroze Eurythmics preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency at the piano and/or guitar

  • Basic computer skills

  • Excellent relational skills; ability to communicate one-on-one and in large groups with people of all ages
