How to Watch an Instagram Live Stream
1. Open Instagram
First, you need to have the Instagram app installed on your phone. Open the Instagram app by tapping the Instagram icon on your home screen.
2. Check the top of your feed
When you open Instagram, you’ll see the main feed (where posts from people you follow appear). At the very top of your feed, you'll notice circular profile pictures. These are the Stories of people you follow. If someone you follow is currently live, you’ll see a little “Live” label in the corner of their profile picture.
3. Tap the live story
Find the profile picture with the "Live" label at the top of your screen. This means the person is streaming live right now. Tap on their profile picture to start watching the live video.
4. Watch the live stream
Once you tap the profile picture, the live video will start playing automatically. You can watch the person live, see what they’re doing, and listen to them talk or interact with their audience.
5. Interact with the stream
While watching the live, you can interact with the person hosting the stream in a few ways:
Send a comment: At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a text box. Type a message or a question to comment on the live video.
Like the stream: Tap the heart icon to send a "like" during the live broadcast.
Send a heart emoji: Tap the heart at the bottom right of the screen to send a heart reaction that will float up on the video.
6. Share the live stream
If you want to invite a friend to watch the live video with you, you can tap the paper plane icon (direct message icon) and share it in a private message.
7. Exit the live video
To exit the live stream, simply tap the X in the upper right corner of the screen. This will take you back to your feed or home screen.
Extra Tips:
Notifications: If you want to be notified when someone goes live, you can turn on post notifications for their account. To do this, go to their profile, tap the bell icon, and choose "Live Videos."
Replays: Once the live stream ends, it’s gone (unless the user saves it as a video to their profile). Some users also upload a replay to their feed or stories for a limited time, so check back if you missed it!
