BREAKFAST RUN
Read the testimony of our previous Breakfast Run:
On Saturday, March 25th, 15 adults and 4 church school children from RHCC went down to 28th St. and 9th Ave in NYC and served a hot breakfast to around 75 houseless people. This is the second time RHCC has participated in this ministry in the last year.
We took down clothing, and bags of toiletries (which our church school children of all ages had assembled earlier) and served breakfast with coffee, fruit salad, muffins, and a scrumptious egg casserole (a la Roland Kistler). While those things met the physical needs of those we met, it was the emotional and spiritual connection that left us all changed. One of our 5th-grade students had a one-on-one conversation with a delightful woman for over 5 minutes. They talked about all sorts of things. Both left smiling.
One man named Tony said to me, “You made my day!” I responded, “You made MINE!” He replied, “How could I have made your day?” I replied, “Because the heart speaks to the heart!” No doubt that all of us had our hearts touched as we connected with our friends…The Rev. Shannon White
Thank you to all who donated food, clothing, and time.
RHCC’s Annual Breakfast Run is a volunteer effort dedicated to building connections between the housed and the homeless. Volunteers from our congregation prepare and distribute food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items to those in need on the streets of New York City. More than just a relief mission, the Breakfast Run creates moments of trust, sharing, and understanding—because the heart of our mission is not just the exchange of goods, but the exchange of humanity.
Breakfast Run is the morning portion of the Midnight Run in which over 400 houses of worship and schools from the tri-state area serve NYC’s houseless population 7 nights and 2 mornings every week.
